Procedure
1. An initial consultation to discuss the concept of the portrait is held either in person or on the phone.
2. I paint from the photographs that I take in your home or office. Existing photographs can be valuable references as well as your insight. After reviewing the references, the basic composition of the painting is decided by mutual agreement.
3. To keep you involved in the creative process from the preliminary sketch to the final work, I closely confer with you during the process either on the phone or by e-mail.
4. It takes one to four months to complete the painting.

Artist Statement
Painting portraits is the greatest challenge and pleasure of artistic expression
With the aid of a camera and other digital devices, rendering a likeness can be a relatively straightforward task for the portrait artist today. However, rendering character remains the real essence of this age-old tradition of the portrait painting.
Using techniques adapted from the old masters, I find genuine satisfaction in exploring character and portraying the true person through oil on canvas.

Fees
Portrait commission prices are determined by the number of individuals, the size of the work and the amount of detail involved. Following is the general guide for estimating a cost of the painting for a single person. Base rates shown are for portraits with a plain background and a simple garment.
